San Miguel Camp Out - May 30-June 2, 2007

HIGHLIGHTS OF SAN MIGUEL CAMPOUT An excellent campout was held at San Miguel Mission (built in 1787) near Paso Robles on May 30-June 2. The Mission is also a novitiate for the Franciscan Order. The mission is a huge facility. A reconstruction program is underway pending funds for major projects. Our contribution of volunteer work consisted of cleanup duty with rakes, wheelbarrows, shovels were provided and we provided the physical stamina. Our “group” was small but mighty and consisted of Jack and Helen White and Ben and Donna Avila. Several other couples had planned to assist but had last minute unavoidable problems. The areas we worked were the front gardens and the huge cemetery where 2000 Indians were buried.

Our hostess, Monica, was very appreciative as was demonstrated by the delicious taco dinner she at the senior center provided for our group.

We ended our work tours at an interesting restaurant in Paso Robles called “Cool Hand Luke” where we enjoyed a wonderful dinner. Ben Avila, Vice President
