President's Message - January 2006

On Wednesday January 11th 2006, we gathered at the Fine Arts Building in Indio for our Mass, meeting and potluck. When Fr. Carney arrived he wasn't feeling well so the Mass was canceled. We proceeded with the meeting and elections. Betty has the minutes. Following the meeting we had our pot luck with a great variety of wonderful food, even if there weren't any salads. Our Western Area President, Tony Vincent and his wife Betty joined us which was greatly appreciated considering their busy schedule. Tony and Betty are members of our RCSW.

We had Mass at 7:15 AM Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, we felt we had a good attendance considering the early hour. Saturday Mass was changed to 4:30 PM, we had over 100 there. That was wonderful. Mass was again at 7:15 on Sunday, we still had 35-40 in attendance. This certainly shows the need for the Mass and also Fr. Carney's popularity. Are you aware Father is now the official Catholic Chaplain for FMCA?

We participated in the Chapter Fair and gave out some applications. Donna Avila and Pat Abernathy helped at the table - others dropped by. The Chapter Fair at Pomona will be on March 20th. If you can help let me know. It takes a few minutes to set up the table and an hour or so being around to answer questions. We have the posters, applications and maybe we can have a handout telling what we are about. Does anyone have the article about Fr. Carney? I believe it was in the February 2004 FMCA Magazine. Copies of that article might be a good idea.

Our Masses in Pomona will be at 4:15 PM each day of the Convention. Father Carney will be there for us.

If you would like to have some type of social gathering, I would try to arrange for a space somewhere. It doesn't have to be a pot luck, it can be a bring your drink and a snack to share, something simple but it brings us together. Jack and I cannot be in charge because we are heading one of the Security Teams and will be on call. We would help if available. If we can do this we might want to invite other Roaman' Catholic Chapters.

Hope to see many of you in Pomona. Don't forget our camp out the first week of June, Thursday to Sunday, June 1-4, 2006.

God Bless,

Helen White, President

Remember our ill members in your prayers.
