Granny’s Sliced
Cookies
1cup brown
sugar, packed
1 cup granulated sugar
1 ˝ cups butter
or margarine
3 eggs, beaten
1 teaspoon salt
4 ˝ cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons
baking soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon
˝ teaspoon
nutmeg
˝ teaspoon ground cloves
1 cup chopped
walnuts or pecans
Method:
Sift together the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg,
cloves & salt. Cream the room
temperature butter with the sugars. Add
the beaten eggs & then mix in the dry ingredients & nuts. Mix thoroughly & form into 3 rolls about
as big around as a baby food jar. Wrap
each roll in plastic wrap & place in a Zip Loc bag & refrigerate or
freeze. They keep well in the
refrigerator & can be sliced & baked as desired. If frozen, thaw in the refrigerator before
slicing. I can still smell these coming
out of the wood stove oven at my Granny’s house. They were so good with a cold glass of
milk! We still enjoy them in our family
today! Mary Lou Smith
