George Sura of the Puget Sounders shared these brownies & the recipe at the April rally at Birch Bay. They were a hit! Thanks George for sharing the brownies & the recipe!

GEORGE’S HEAVENLY BROWNIES

4 squares unsweetened chocolate
1/3 cup canola oil

1/3 cup unsweetened applesauce
1 teaspoon vanilla

2 cups granulated sugar
8 large egg whites (at room temp.)

1 cup all purpose flour
½ cup chopped walnuts or pecans

DIRECTIONS:

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Melt the chocolate, add the oil, applesauce & vanilla. Mix well. Stir in the sugar & unbeaten egg whites until blended. Add the flour & the nuts. Spread the batter in a prepared 9x13” square pan. Bake at 350 degrees or until the brownies start to pull away from the sides of the pan. George says ”If I do not use unsweetened chocolate, then I cut the portion of sugar.”
