GASLESS CHILI for 12

No Beano needed for this recipe! !

 

3 pounds lean ground beef

2 cups dried peas (I use dried yellow peas)

4 pounds canned tomatoes

2 large onions, chopped

2 packages chili seasoning mix

chopped fresh garlic (optional)

chili powder to taste

 

Directions:

Soak the peas overnight.  The next day, drain & add fresh water & cook until tender.  Brown the ground beef & onions in a large pot.  Add the tomatoes, garlic, dry mix, chili powder to taste, & drained peas.  Put all the ingredients in a large crock pot & cook on low for at least 6-8 hours.  This recipe came to me years ago from a very dear friend.  Our family uses this as a base & adds to it with chopped green pepper, tomato paste, the last drops out of the catsup & steak sauce bottles mixed with a little water& once in a while even beans!  Garnish with Chopped green onions & grated cheddar cheese.
